Roleplaying at the Basin – 14th November
Well with the unfortunate demise of Mougrim the barbarian last session at our Melbourne RPG Group, I came up with a new character. Instead of trying out a new muscle and brawn, hack and slash character I decided to go back to my roots and play a character with a bit of flash and style… A Rogue.
“I lost myself in the shadows,
I’m lost again in the dark,
I didn’t notice it at least,
I didn’t avoid it at last.
I can’t see between the darkness
that surround me when I walk.
I don’t know if that’s my face
or the one I want to display.
How many times others said me
how I must talk or must act.
So many times they said me
when to love, to laugh or to cry.
And I do not know, I’m not sure,
if that’s my reflection or not.
Today my mask is so strong
that I can’t remove it from me.”
Meet Tawn:
Tawn was born in Buchau to nobles. She had 5 brothers all of whom were older than her. She was the ’special’ one though. Her mother and father adored her and her brothers hated her.
The adoration of her parents was so severe that they pretty much forced her to do everything (as the poem had said). And when they were away, her brothers would tease her, bully her and soon torture her. She counted countless days and nights been thrown into the small basement of the villa and locked in the darkness with only the rats and cockroaches for company.
Soon, madness threatened and she began to talk to the shadows in the inky blackness. Once killing a rat with her bare hand and enjoying the squelching sound and the snapping of its bones.
Soon she was able to free her prison-like palace and fled into the darkness with only Skadi Auril – the goddess of winter – heeding her call for aid in the cold nights.
Over time she developed the skills of a rogue, a child of the darkness that existed between the world of the light and the realm of the shadow.
Many months and soon years past and Buchau grew a tiresome place for her. She was one of the best known thieves in town, and so, she had to leave. The guilds of thieves all wanted a piece of her, and the ones she turned down wanted her dead. The city guards wanted her captured and executed in public. The noble houses wanted her captured. The commoners never knew she existed, but wanted the law upheld.
She fled Buchau after living there all her life. Sixteen years in ‘perpetual slavery’ and three years as a thief.
Six months later she found herself in another town/village far from the reaches of her family. Here she learnt the local customs quickly and found shelter in the form of a kindly old nun…
