Baidu: an SEO must?

In the last few weeks and months there has been a lot of talk about the Chinese Search Engine known as Baidu.  Baidu currently owns around 60% of the search market in China and over 20% across the asian regions – this makes it a good destination for SEO’s.

Now not all websites would benefit from a Chinese Page indexed and ranked on the search engine, but several industries can and do benefit from it already:

  • Travel and Hotels
  • Music Downloads (Legal ones)
  • Movie Downloads (again Legal sites)
  • Shopping sites that can ship internationally
  • Property and Real Estate in other countries – targeting Chinese Business men and investors
  • Tourism and Airline booking sites

All of these and probably several more industries can benefit from a page on Baidu.  So the big question is, is it an SEO Must?

My answer – Yes – this is a potential white hat SEO technique and cannot be overlooked.

The next Question is How?

My answer – firstly you need to be able to translate the site  – the easiest option of course, is Googles Translate Service which does a fairly accurate translation – at least enough for you to understand.

The second part is to register for an account… Here it gets tricky because Google fails to translate the page (possible because it is a secure page?)

Another way for translating the pages is to get Firefox’s Translator Add On

If all else fails, find a Translator to register your account on the site and talk you through the rest of it…

More to come…
